our story

nanika tea began with a shared craving - for quiet moments, for connection, for really good matcha.

we’re joanna and andrew, a textile designer and a photographer who met in seoul and built a life together across melbourne, hong kong, chicago, and now the d.c. area. along the way, tea was our constant. a small daily ritual that helped us feel at home, no matter where we landed.

for joanna, matcha became more than a ritual - it was a lifeline. after years of struggling with anxiety and restless nights, she gave up coffee but missed her daily pick-me-up. matcha filled that space with something gentler: a calm, focused boost that brought more ease to her days and fewer sleepless nights.

nanika wasn’t part of the plan. it started as a side project - something we made for ourselves when we couldn’t find the quality matcha we loved nearby. but what began as a personal ritual became something more: a way to share the calm, grounding joy of matcha with others.

we launched nanika tea in 2025 with a simple idea: to create “something” meaningful. (nanika means just that—something—in japanese.) our matcha stays true to tradition, with room for creativity. always crafted with care. never ordinary.

we hope nanika becomes your something too.
